This was attempted by Tom Calvert at SFU (I think in the 70's or 80's) and
to a limited extent by Norman Badler at the Univ. of PA. It's a rather
complicated undertaking, as you can imagine! My work attempts a small corner
of this issue - working only with Laban's Effort qualities. The current
use of scripting languages is getting lots of attention in the CG animation
field - the concepts are close to the "language" orientation of Laban's
work, yet in my opinion the results create movement whose motivation is from
external direction rather than internal intent.
