too busy...

I'm writing this in response to a personal post from someone who has been
reading this list and a conversation (IRL) with another list reader -- both
enjoying the postings, but feeling too busy to respond/ reply/ interact. It
inspired me to post this thought: I think we could treat the list the way
'nettime' does (nettime is a critical electronic forum for discussions
related to internet). The moderators, Geert Lovink and Pit Shultz, don't
really encourage 'dialogue', but 'intersections' via postings which do not
attempt to reinforce one another (this is how Mackenzie Wark talks about it
-- Wark is a sharp as anything social and cultural critic based in
Australia, his writings can be found on the net). While I think the
'dialogue' model IS important for our 'community' of artists working in this
area -- we should keep in mind that along with the idea of 'community' there
may mount pressures to make us feel that we 'need' to find the time to
respond to the net postings from the others on the list. Especially when
these are directed to us personally. I just want to use this moment to
encourage everyone to contribute writings/ reflections related to this field
whenever you wish, even if it 'ignores' a current dialogue thread or
whatever. Be irresponsible in this space.
Regards,
Scott
