>From 26-28 March 1999, the Amsterdam School of the Arts, School for New
Dance Development and Writing Research Associates will organise the first
in a series of conferences entitled ëConversations On Choreographyí. The
general topic is the current and future practice of contemporary
dancemaking with a focus on European contexts. Each session is designed to
address a particular set of themes and to coordinate with other events
happening at that time in that location. This first event in Amsterdam will
overlap with a festival on "Body and Technology" being organised by the NES
Theaters, 22-27 March and a "Dance and Dramaturgy" Workshop, 20-22 March,
organised by independent dramaturgs and choreographers in collaboration
with the Theater Institute Nederlands.
The structure of the sessions will vary, but each will experiment with new
ways to organise discussion, presentation, interaction and dialogue.
Invited 'conversation participants' will be writers, dramaturgs,
choreographers, theorists and critics who are able to straddle the line
between the study and the making of dance. *Keeping the practice of
choreography close to the center of the discussions and debates is
essential to the aims of the project.*
