My aim with this comment was just to leave the debate open-ended - I am
unsure, myself, of how much explanation is needed (and it must, of course,
also vary from work to work).
You don't need to read and understand the rules of an arcade game before
you play it - you just pick them up as you play. Maybe an approach like
this would be more satisfying to the audience of a dance/tech work than
having a full description of what technology you used, how it works, how
difficult it was to use, and what you wanted to acheive, in the programme
notes.
Just a thought.
