I have a similar concern to Nick Rothwell. The tendency to privilege
the tools over form and content is one I have a great deal of concern
with. I have just finished a year long project with choreographer Ellen
Bromberg and composer John Mitchell at ASU's Institute for Studies in
The Arts. This paradox of technology over content was a constant source
of discussion and remains to be fully explored, perhaps in a forum such
as this. As a teacher I am constantly asking students not to allow the
technology to dictate the parameters of a work and follow that practice
in my own work.
