Being one of the 75% who have read yet not written much lately, I would like
to add that a "multi-function" list can more easily be achieved if people
thread properly, that is: I don't think it's much work for people to simply
skip a subject if they don't find it relevant to their interests. Indeed
many news reading applications include a "mark thread as read" function. As
long as people keep threading cleanly (don't constantly change the subject
heading) this system enables people to assess and access the information
they want.
"The great Debate" has been a cleanly marked thread.
